The dedicated individuals guiding our cultural centre.
Members of the Consortium are committed to making the return of the HUDAWI Cultural Centre, back under the control of our community, a reality. We have stayed the course with tenacity and drive and possess the knowledge, skills and experience to take this forwards.
With over 30 years of dedicated service in the Third Sector, Business Sector, Mental Health, and Employment, I offer extensive experience and a profound understanding of diverse communities. My leadership roles, both at managerial and grassroots levels, have demonstrated my effectiveness and strategic acumen.
As a Director of No Grant No Fee (NGNF), I orchestrated successful initiatives that secured grant funding for over 80 Third Sector organisations, catalysing impactful projects nationwide. My adaptive management style enables me to navigate diverse situations and tailor solutions to specific needs.
I assist various organisations with marketing, awareness-raising and fundraising. Organisations I have supported include BHI (Black Health Initiative) Leeds, Voices of Cancer, Cycle of Life, Prostate Cancer UK, Macmillan, Sickle Cell Society, Epilepsy Dept HRI and Diabetes UK.
The BBSA Directors have backgrounds in finance, funding, procurement, business, event management, leadership, interview skills, coaching, mentoring, audio visual, marketing and administration. I currently have over 37 years’ experience working for the Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
My love for God and people has influenced my career decisions. My background is in Social Care, where I have worked as a Social Worker and as a Minister in my local church.
I have managed a team of Social Workers and Social Care professionals within the Local Authority, managing budgets, developing operational systems and implementing policies. I have also worked at the University as a lecturer, and I am currently a Care Manager for Oasis Care Support Services, collaborating with stakeholders and external agencies to ensure coordinated care, support and wellbeing.
I am the Managing Director of Ashbrow Garage Ltd., a business I established in 1976. The company was highly commended for its exceptional customer experience at the prestigious 2017 Auto Trader Click Awards.
I am committed to ensuring that the Hudawi Cultural Centre remains primarily a cultural space for the African Caribbean community. My vision is for a broad range of African Caribbean organisations to be housed under one hub.
I have worked directly with organisations and the local authority to set up numerous projects, such as the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and a community nursery.
As founder and vice chair of Sadeh Lok Housing Association, I was jointly responsible for managing large budgets, building programmes and all that entails. My depth and breadth of community involvement and the achievement of tangible outcomes for the African and Caribbean community equip me to help drive the HUDAWI Community Asset Transfer forwards.
I am a highly skilled and experienced operations and service professional within the mechanical engineering industry.
I am also a dedicated Apprenticeship Manager specialising in the development and management of apprenticeship programmes, guiding the next generation of young people through comprehensive training, hands-on learning and technical mentorship.
I currently represent the Kirklees Branch of the UNISON Black Members Group on the Hudawi Consortium. I am deeply committed to ensuring that the Hudawi Cultural Centre remains at the heart of the African and African Caribbean community while being open and accessible to Huddersfield residents as a whole.
As a UNISON Steward and Joint Equalities Officer I have developed strong interpersonal and communication skills, represented members in meetings, engaged on issues such as working conditions and restructuring, and gained a solid understanding of HR procedures. I also have experience of public speaking at local, regional and national conferences.
I am a Management Consultant with over 25 years’ experience in analytical and business advisory roles, strategic planning and generalist management consultancy.
My relevant skill sets include non-financial reporting, evaluation and Social Return on Investment, stakeholder analysis and management information systems.
I have dedicated my working life to the health and wellbeing of my community. My involvement in community and voluntary groups has been extensive and varied.
I have served in leadership roles, participated in grassroots initiatives and contributed my skills and expertise to a wide range of causes. I have served on various boards and committees, helping to develop and implement policies that promote transparency, accountability and ethical practice. Whether through professional roles or voluntary efforts, I strive to make a positive impact.
As well as being a former Senior Pastor at the NTCG Huddersfield, I have, as a BACC official, been actively involved in the African Caribbean community’s broader activism. I have continually campaigned, with others, to reclaim the Hudawi Centre building back to the community.
I oversaw two community-based projects: the Adult Advocacy Support Service, which assisted individuals with limitations in communicating their needs to different services, and My Change Mentors, a funded mentorship programme for young men in Key Stage 4 in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Huddersfield. Professionally, I spent 20 years working in the printing industry before running a printing business for seven years. I act as the liaison between the Consortium team and the network of churches in Huddersfield and understand the start-up challenges and diplomatic scenarios ahead.
